2012 Cape Fear Weekend

Hitting the Road
Thursday, April 19

Well those of us running the 2012 Cape Fear Rally received our rally packs yesterday.  Today, I am packed and ready to hit the road.  Destination: Wilmington, North Carolina.
I plan to arrive in Wilmington tomorrow, so between now and then, I will be making a couple of stops . . . First stop is the Malvern Hill Battlefield, part of Richmond National Battlefield Park that lays just south east of Richmond, Virginia.  This is a stop in this year's Virginia Grand Tour (VAGT).  The question I need to answer is - How many cannons are at this location?  You will need really good eye sight, or to really zoom in, to get the answer from my picture.
After clicking off a few shots on the camera, I am back on the bike and scooting off to my next VAGT stop - the John H. Kerr Reservoir.
This time the question is - what is the name of the boat sitting on the west side of the dam?

Alrighty then - it is getting late.  I better get scooting.  I will be heading into Henderson, North Carolina for the night.  But first I will cross over the dam . . .

On to Wilmington, North Carolina
Friday, April 20

I spent a brief, but pleasant evening at the Sleep Inn.  I will finish making my way into Wilmington today; I need to be there by 6:30 PM, but would like to be in well before that time.  After all, Wilmington is only 186 miles away - how long does it take to go that far . . .

Right way I discover that today could prove to be an interesting ride . . .

I had to stop and click on an old Mountain Dew sign.  It feels like years since I had seen one of these and it brought back happy memories.
I spy a bunch of turtles sunning on a log . . . for some reason this always brings a smile to my face . . .
I stop for a quick bite at this little burger shack after a refuel across the road . . .
I thoroughly enjoy my burger and indulge in a little sun worship, before Voyager 3 and I once again hit the road. Shadows were getting longer and the clock kept on ticking so I got serious about turning those wheels.  Of course I had to stop and capture proof positive that pigs could fly before I finished my ride for the day.
I arrive in Wilmington in time to check-in, purchase my cold beverage six-pack (Yea IBC Root Beer!), resolve a couple issues with my room, and still make it on time for the 2012 Cape Fear Mini Rally Riders' Meeting.  Hehehe, let the fun begin . . . @ 5:00 AM tomorrow morning . . .
